Attend a Class

Our homebuyer education classes are a great way to start on the road to homeownership. This class provides an overview of everything you need to know to prepare you to purchase and own a home.  This class is open to anyone and Required by anyone seeking down payment or mortgage assistance from HomesFund.

Submit a HomesFund Application PRIOR to meeting with our advisors.

A HomesFund Housing Counselor will spend 2-3 hours reviewing your paperwork PRIOR to your counseling/advising appointment.  We need this processing time and a COMPLETE application in order to give you the best advice possible.

When you are ready, request an application packet to be emailed to you,  pick one up at homebuyer education class, or print one from our website. To email your paperwork, please email Sharon with HomesFund.org and request a secure email link.

We must receive a complete application and all necessary documents as listed on page 1 of the application – in .pdf format (no photos or screenshots please!).  After your application has been fully processed, we will contact you for an intake meeting with a HomesFund Housing Counselor.  We strive for this appointment to be within 2-3 business days after receiving your complete application packet.

Meet with a HomesFund Housing Counselor

AFTER HomesFund reviews your complete application, we will contact you to schedule an advising appointment. 

HomesFund’s expert team provides free one-on-one home purchase advisement to prospective homebuyers. During the initial confidential meeting, we will discuss your homeownership goals, review your current financial situation, and review a common 30-day period of your spending by reviewing bank and credit card statements. You must successfully pass the budget review before qualifying. We will then discuss mortgage loan options and the pros and cons to each option, and answer any questions you may have regarding the homebuying process. Plan on spending about one hour in your initial advisement session. You will leave with a clear understanding of your next steps to achieve your goal of homeownership.
Our homeownership advisors are available to meet with you as frequently as you like to help you prepare for homeownership, achieve your goals, and move through the home buying process.

In order to receive HomesFund down payment assistance or loan, a homeownership advisement session is required.

Receive Mortgage Assistance (If you qualify)

Buying a home in southwest Colorado is expensive! Once you are prepared to purchase your home we offer down payment assistance and several mortgage products.  Mortgage Assistance is available in La Plata, Montezuma, Archuleta, San Juan, and Dolores County – Colorado.  (We do not offer services across state lines, Colorado only)
